Interview with Mike Morgan
Greg: TELL US ABOUT YOUR SKIING CAREER AND YOUR PAST SKIING ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
Mike: Wow, it’s been a long time! I started skiing back in 1972, and won my first Nationals in 1975, I turned Pro in 1980.
Greg: AS I REMEMBER, YOU WON THE US OPEN, SEVERAL TIMES, WHAT OTHER MAJOR EVENTS OR TITLES DID YOU WIN DURING YOUR PRO SKIING CAREER?
Mike: I won the US Masters, Moomba Open, numerous Nationals and was on four US world teams.
Greg: YOU RETIRED FROM PRO SKIING IN 1987?
Mike: Yes, then I got married, continued my education and completed Medical School. Not sure exactly what year it was, however, my wife persuaded me to ski again. I skied Mens 3, and won the Nationals in the Mens 3 division. The Big Dawg rules state that you can not have placed in the top 10 at a Pro event in the past three years. Since I had skied a few Pro events, and placed in the top 10, I had to wait a few years before I was eligible to ski in the Big Dawg.
Greg: ARE YOU PLANNING ON SKIING IN ANY OBRIEN/NAUTIQUE BIG DAWG TOURNAMENTS THIS YEAR?
Mike: No, My focus is on my family and my two daughters skiing activities. I’m very proud of them and want to make sure I support their skiing.
Greg: YOU WERE THE FIRST BIG DAWG CHAMPION WHEN THE BIG DAWG BECAME A SERIES IN 2006.
Mike: That was a good tournament, however, one of my favorite Big Dawg tournaments, was the qualifier in Austin, TX. My entire family made the trip. They had a class C tournament on the site as well as the Big Dawg, and my daughters got to compete as well. I won that qualifier, which also made it nice.
Greg: WHO DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE TOP THREE SKIERS TO BEAT IN THIS YEARS BIG DAWG SERIES?
Mike: Favret, Miller, Larson
Greg: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT SKIING UNDER THE LIGHTS?
Mike: I would vote no for the skiing under the lights, the older skiers are at a disadvantage with their eyesight.
Greg: WILL WE SEE YOU COMPETE IN ANY BIG DAWG TOURNAMENTS IN THE FUTURE?
Mike: Absolutely! However for 2011, my attention will be on supporting my daughters.
Greg: BUT! THERE WILL BE A CLASS C TOURNAMENT DURING THE BIG DAWG QUALIFIER STOP AT HOUSTON! SO IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT SKIING, YOU COULD BRING THE FAMILY TO TEXAS.
